LISTEN LADY, I’M IN PRE-ALGEBRA

No Comments audio

More from psych disco popper Dream Love, one of these tracks feature Zak Mering‘s vocals cut up and sliced. These two tracks are going to be on a new cassingle that Dream Love is putting together which should be dropping June 12th on his Noise Horror imprint and a full album on July 4th. Also, there is a crazy cool video below of a Dream Love show segmented between shots about ice cream, and conversations about relative perceptions of quantum consciousness.

SONHO MARITIMO

Finally, it’s starting to feel like summer. The air has been filled with campfire smoke, I’ve been embarking on seemingly endless bike rides, and getting back together with old friends. These new tracks by Branches score these early summer nights, and Pedro reminds us how the best of summer is yet to come.

CANDOR

No Comments audio, video

Really enjoying the visuals put together for one of Balmorhea‘s newest (but slightly dated) tracks Candor, off of one of my favorite seven inches as of lately. I even heard one of their tracks recently in an INTEL commercial, that’s how you know you’ve made it big, for real. I will always love Balmorhea, from their first record to their last.

HIGHER GROUND

I feel like Rimar came out of nowhere, this is honestly without doubt the BEST electronic-based sounds I’ve heard as of lately. You’ll hear some straight-up electronic beats, mellowed-out jams, future R&B, AND rap all compiled into a relatively short listen so it’s low-risk. I personally suggest going deep on these tracks as soon as possible.

Pretty stoked that Yohuna has agreed to curate the new Salad Fork’s first guest mix. She dedicated this one to her friend Lissie, pictured above. It’s also rumored that some of her material might be getting Art Fag treatment sometime in the future.

This roll from the Porcelain Raft/Tennis show finally came in, photos after the jump. I got a bunch of photos of Perlman in there from when we visited MoMA too.

GETTIN SERIOUS

No Comments audio, video

Kickstarter is seriously the best thing. I used it to successfully grip some cash to make my first charity project happen, and it seems like all of my favorite musicians are using it to fund some of their projects.

First up, Vacation Dad/MJ MJ needs your help, Andy and Charlie moved out to California and ended up getting all their stuff stolen (total bummer, seriously). Anyway, their Kickstarter project features a lot of different goodies, t-shirts, vinyl, tapes, hand made books, and a 31-track compilation.

Next, Speculator and Boy Friend could use some tour cash so they can play your city. Their Kickstarter includes vinyl, unreleased tapes, shirts, all the way up to a personalized song or a private party.

Below is some of their current material, basically stuff you’d expect to hear while they are on tour:

EAU CLAIRE, WISCONSIN

No Comments audio, video

Just the other day Johanne was telling me about how the part of Wisconsin where she is from folk music is fairly prevalent, and she sent me a bandcamp link to a super talented folk musician by the name of Adelyn Rose. The below video is an example of folk music at it’s best, and this song is pretty irresistable when you combine the talent Yohuna and Adelyn Rose have. Also included below is a reworking Adelyn did of Sarah Vaughan’s Broken Hearted Melody.

IT’S NO LIE

No Comments audio

I picked up this shoegaze 7″ from a band called Catherine not too long ago, and the fact that it has been raining here in Rhode Island for the past week it finally seemed appropriate to turn the sounds from analog to digital form.

While doing some internet research, I found that apparently the drummer of Catherine was married to Smashing Pumpkins bassist D’Arcy (that pretty deranged woman that disappeared to a farm) because of this reason and their sound, Catherine was typically considered a Smashing Pumpkins knock off, and both bands would even borrow members for studio recording.

The band started in 1985 and broke up in 1998. Wikipedia makes no mention of this 7″ club release, so I’m left to assume this one is a bit harder to find. Below is the B-side to this record.

TOTALLY WET

Jensen Sportag put together this pretty sweet mix which sounds like an extended version of some of their previously released songs, re-hashed/re-cut. It’s meant to be an addition onto their previously released Wet EP, which I had said some words about here.
