    VARIOUS DEFICIENCIES, VOL. I

Newer-to-the game Blackburn Recordings dropped a very nice 17 track compilation not too long ago, featuring exclusive tracks from Salad Fork favorites such as Cloud Nothings, Sleep Over, and Big Troubles, among others. You can still download this mix, for free, here and now, you can purchase it on a 150-run cassette tape featuring art by Molly Smith. Blackburn also has a Sore Eros 7” up for sale called Taal Compass, be sure to pick that up if your into mellowed out lo-fi folk. Below is one of my favorite tracks from this compilation, Sultans’ stunning There Goes My Girl, the attractive guitar riffs and soothing vocals will melt your heart into magma.

    THE LIGHT FROM THE HEAVENS

Creating rifts and holes in the dark clouds of rainy days and thunderstorms are the beautiful Sleep Over goddesses, their music representing the emotions of those who reside in the heavens. Some of those souls are filled with angst and darkness, perhaps because of what they left in their lives, or maybe they feel forgotten in the afterlife. Others are filled with joy and happiness, because they had left the earth knowing they had accomplished everything they had wanted in their lives.

Today, the heavens have opened and a vibrant light has breached through the dark, cloudy morning here in Rhode Island, blessing us with a new Sleep Over track, La Rose. La Rose is a completely striking track, and creates a well-rounded 7” when compared to its’ A-side. It’s a bit slower, and ends the record with a yearn for more, an addiction is most nearly what Sleep Over is.

Forest Family Records’ have opened pre-ordering for their Sleep Over 7”, limited to a press of 500 on clear vinyl, dropping officially on August 10th.

    SLEEP OVER: OUTER LIMITS [video]

Forest Family Records have just announced their latest release, a 7” with the SLEEP OVER goddesses. Outer Limits is less of a lo-fi tune when compared to their earlier jams, as this track lacks the fuzziness and wooziness and brings an 80s late night dance tune to the table, more similar to Nite Jewel, but easier to digest. I have curated an unofficial video using footage from German filmmaker Lutz Mommartz, and one other piece scrapped from Archive.org.

    DREAM OVER

Dream Over is a track from one of my favorite bands, the genius of Nate Grace, Pure Ecstasy. It is off of a split 7” with another one of my favorite Texas bands, Sleep Over. Really, how could I not pick this up. You can pre-order it through Light Lodge, and if you are one of the first 50 you’ll get a cassette tape with it too. I can’t wait to get lost in a hazy daze.

    Sunspots

I first heard Sleep Over on Ians’ (of Freindship Bracelet fame) radio show (at UMASS Amherst for all of you locals-and yes I do listen to the radio sometimes), Ice Cream Paint Job 3/8/10. I was pleasantly excited when Sleep Over popped up on this epic SXSW Sampler posted below, finally I will be able to listen through iTunes and not a Myspace player that is plagued without the repeat function. Sleep Over is my top pick for up and coming buzz artist from the sampler, but oh man between the new Weekend/Woodsman/Truman Peyote/Speculator tracks I’ll be good for weeks.
