Sultan scores the desert with her lo-fi guitar recordings, creating wavelengths that travel with heat and wind over the desert sand, oscillating with nature as one. The wavelengths are physically exemplified by the capillary ripples in the sand, a real representation of nature’s power. Nature can manipulate the desert as if it were an ocean wave, moving sand around and hiding its secrets, as well as those who have failed to conquer it.
The desert is one of the world’s most mysterious creatures, and the gentle tones created by Sultan travel with the adventurer, as he ventures through the desert in the night-with all but a camel and his most precious belongings on his back.
Sultan is Kayla Cohen, she has a limited cassette release out now on the Curatorial Club, titled The Moon. You may also remember her stunning track There Goes My Girl, which came out on the Blackburn Recordings compilation.
